Jones leads Windsor girls to first in Tri-Rivers track meet

CHARLES CITY—Windsor double-winner Jordan Jones led the Lady Dukes to a first-place finish during the Tri-Rivers District track meet at Charles City on Tuesday.

Jones won the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump, and took second in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump to earn 32 of her team’s 131 points. Charles City followed with 129, Surry 42, Franklin 41, Sussex Central 20 and Chesterfield 41.

For the boys, Lavon Evans was Franklin’s only double winner, taking first in the discus and tying for first in the shot put with Windsor’s Oris Bowers. The Broncos won the meet with 148 points followed by Windsor with 117, Sussex Central 62, Charles City 48 and Surry 32.

Franklin’s Travis Brown, Reshard Sumblin, Josh Walker and Justin Grant ran the 100-meter dash in 11.72, 11.73, 11.74 and 11.76, respectively. They placed first, second, third and fifth, respectively.

The four combined to win the 4- by 100-meter relay in 45.07.

Other first-place winners from Windsor were Emily Lonsdale and Mark Fenner, both in the 1,600-meter run.

Other first-place winners from Franklin were Sumblin in the 200-meter dash and Grant in the triple jump.
