Tidewater advances to VCC semi-finals

WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy’s softball team will move on to the semi-finals of the Virginia Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a first round, 9-2 victory over Blessed Sacrament Huguenot.

TA, the No. 3 seed, will take on No. 2 seed Brunswick Academy at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, in Richmond. The winner will advance to the championship game Saturday in Richmond.

TA got off to a shaky start allowing two unearned runs for BSH on two errors in the top of the first inning. TA tied the game in the bottom of the third inning and then took the lead with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Pitcher Taylor Warner picked up the win for TA. She gave up two hits and no earned runs. She had 11 strikeouts in six innings.

Samantha Spain went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored three runs. Spain also had two walks and a stolen base. Warner went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Cary Beahm went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Beahm also scored a run and picked up three RBIs. Tyler Stephenson went 2-for-4, had an RBI and scored a run.
