COURTLAND—Southampton High School senior pitcher Billy Nixon led the Indians to their 10th win of the season by giving up three hits during a 10-0 win over Brunswick on Tuesday.
Nixon also had six strikeouts in the five-inning game. He is 5-1 for the season.
“The Indians also played solid defense not making an error,” said Coach Wes Griffith.
Offensively, the Indians tallied eight hits including two doubles and two triples.
The Indians started the scoring in the bottom of the first when Jack Bunn drove in Hayden Spalding with a double. Southampton added one in the bottom of the second when Tanner Winters led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on Cecil Lowe’s groundball to the second baseman and stole home on the throw from the second baseman after a Zach Vann steal attempt.
The Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the third while taking advantage of two Brunswick errors and a hit batter. Southampton scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jake Pope led off the inning with a double.
Nixon drove in Pope and Spalding with a triple to right field. The Indians ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when Tonee Hill tripled to right field and Vann drove him in for the 10th run with a base hit through the left side of the infield.
