Butler wins sixth round of bass tournament

FRANKLIN—Tommy Butler took first place during round six of the Three Rivers Bass Tournament Series on Sunday.

The event took place at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ boat launch near General Vaughan Bridge on Highway 258.

Butler caught five bass weighing a combined 11.46 pounds. He also caught the heaviest bass, weighing 5.14 pounds.

The team of Bubba Gay and Mike Huff took second, followed by Kevin Gunn and Earl Gunn in third, Darden Gillette and Mary Britt in fourth, and Keith Vick and K.J. Vick in fifth.

The club will hold a Big Bass Challenge on Sunday, May 15. This is one of the only two events open to the public during the tournament.

Boating anglers will compete to weigh the heaviest bass at three weigh-in periods approximately two hours apart. Weigh-ins will be 8 and 10:30 a.m and 1 p.m.

The Big Bass Challenge will launch from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ boat landing near General Vaughan Bridge. Entry fee will be $40 per boat.
