Drakes win White Perch Fishing Tournament

FRANKLIN—The team of Glen Drake and Jeremy Drake won the Meherrin Valley Hunt Club’s White Perch Fishing Tournament on Saturday.

Prizes were given for the total weight of 10 fish.

The Drakes’ fish weighed 6.42 pounds. Second place went to Mike and Lois Strickland with 5.29 pounds of fish and Bradley Gray and Wayne Gray with 5.17 pounds.

Eight teams caught the minimum 10 fish to be considered for prizes. More than 100 fish were caught during the tournament.

Held on the Nottoway River from the Bronco Club, the event included 27 anglers and 14 boats. Barbecue was sold; the club made $600 to $700, said member Greg Harmon.

The club also offered a prize for the biggest striper. No one caught a striper.
