WAKEFIELD—The consistent play of Southampton Academy tennis player Jessica Porter has helped the Lady Raiders all season and it was no different Thursday as they defeated Tidewater Academy 6-3.

Porter, who is undefeated in Virginia Commonwealth Conference play this year, defeated Tidewater’s Olivia Patton 8-0 in the second seed match.

Southampton’s No. 1 seed Barclay Gatten shut out Chandler Williams 8-0. The No. 5 seed Meagan Dail shutout Abby Malcolm 8-0. Megan Drewry also picked up a victory in the match, defeating Marianna Stephenson 8-1.

Tidewater’s Jackie Pinkleton defeated Ginny Taylor 8-6 and Lady Warrior Casey Richards defeated Courtney Beltrami 9-7 in singles matches.

In doubles, the team of Gatten and Porter defeated Williams and Pinkleton 8-0, while Dail and Drewry defeated Malcolm and Stephenson 9-8.

In an exhibition singles match Southampton’s Olivia Fox defeated Brooke O’Gara.

The victory puts SA at 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The team will play  Tidewater Academy Tuesday, Steward School Wednesday and Fuqua School Thursday.
