RICHMOND—One of four men seriously burned in an April 7 explosion at a logging site in Greensville County died on Wednesday night at VCU Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Gary Pierce, address unknown, had been in critical condition since the accident.
Victims Jeremy Everett, Lon Bickham and Trent Kimbrell all improved to critical, but stable, the hospital spokeswoman said Thursday. They had been in critical.
The men work for Pinecrest Timber in Waverly, according to Emporia Fire Chief Chris Rawlings, whose department responded to the 5:12 p.m. incident a few miles off Hell’s Island Road near the North Carolina border.
Greensville County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident, according to a dispatcher. Sheriff J.R. Edwards Jr. has not return repeated phone calls to The Tidewater News from Friday, Monday or Thursday.
Rawlings understands the men were doing maintenance on equipment when the explosion occurred.
