Tidewater Academy softball team wins three of four games

POWHATAN—The Tidewater Academy softball team went 3-1 in a recent road trip, beating Westover Christian Academy 8-3 in Danville Friday, splitting a doubleheader with Carlisle School of Martinsville Saturday and beating Blessed Sacrament Huguenot 11-7 in Powhatan Monday.
TA won the first game of the doubleheader 4-3, but lost the second game 5-4.
In Friday’s win, TA scored one run in the first inning, one run in the fifth and six runs in the final frame on 11 hits. The Lady Warriors committed six errors.
Westover scored one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth. WCA mustered three hits.
The winning pitcher was Taylor Warner, who improves to 5-2. Warner had 14 strikeouts and only gave up three hits. The losing pitcher was A. Sulter.
TA’s Rebecca Renney went 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and a run scored. Samantha Spain went 3-for-3 with two doubles, scored two runs and an RBI.
In Saturday’s first game against Carlisle, TA scored one run in the first inning, one run in the second and two runs in the fourth. The Lady Warriors had seven hits and committed one error. Warner improved to 6-2 on the year with the victory. The losing pitcher was D. Williams.
Warner went 2-for-3 for TA with two RBIs. Falon Williams went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double. She also scored a run.
In Saturday’s second tilt, Carlisle scored one run in the first inning, three runs in the third and one run in the bottom of the sixth inning on eight hits while committing two errors. TA scored one run in the second inning and three runs in the third on five hits. TA committed no errors in its final game of the weekend.
Warner suffered the loss dropping her record to 6-3, while Carlisle’s Krista Frazier notched the win.
Williams went 2-for-3 for TA, scoring a run and stealing a base.
C. Puckett won the game for Carlisle going 1-for-1, plating twice and scoring a RBI on three walks. She had the walk-off hit in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Tidewater Academy improved to 7-3 on the year after the weekend’s slate of games.
TA defeated Blessed Sacrament Huguenot 11-7 Monday.
TA scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the second, one run in the third, two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh en route to the victory. The Lady Warriors had 13 hits, but committed 15 errors.
BSH scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the third and two runs in the seventh. The Lady Knights committed 11 errors and had five hits in the loss.
Warner was the winning pitcher, improving to 7-3 on the year. A. Lindsey suffered the loss.
TA’s Kate Grinstead went 2-for-4 with one RBI. She also scored a run. Cary Beahm went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and scored three runs. Samantha Spain went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. She scored three runs as well.
The Lady Warriors improve to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in Virginia Commonwealth Conference play.
