WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy lost 3-0 Friday to Steward School in a pitchers’ duel.

TA Coach Paul Rogers said he was proud of team for staying in the game, despite mustering one hit.

“It was a good ball game,” Rogers said. “I’m proud of my kids. I thought we played with them.”

Steward pitcher Haylan White gave up one hit to Tidewater Academy’s Martin Hellyer and allowed no earned runs. White struck out 17 batters.

TA pitcher Josh Clark gave up seven hits, two earned runs and struck out four in the game.

“My pitcher pitched a great ball game,” Rogers said.

Neither team scored until the top of the fifth inning. Steward scored again in the top of the seventh inning.

Rogers said the game resulted in a feel-good loss as his team stayed in the ball game despite the offensive struggles.

“Even though they had two errors and one of them led to a run, I’m very pleased with the way they played,” Rogers said. “When you face a pitcher like that you just have to tip your hat, say ‘you beat me’ and move on.”
