PETERSBURG—A win for the doubles team of Casey Richard and Olivia Patton could not lift the Tidewater Academy tennis team to victory.

The Lady Warriors fell 8-1 to Appomattox Regional Governor’s School Thursday. The team also dropped a match Tuesday, going winless against Blessed Sacrament Huguenot.

TA Coach Susan Scarborough said while the team has been unable to pull out victories recently, matches have been closer.

“We’ve been winning some sets in matches, and we’re starting to win more games,” Scarborough said. “We are starting to see more improvement.”

The team has been playing more matches as the temperature has risen and that, along with the absence of rain, has helped the team in its play.

“The weather is getting warmer and we’re playing more matches,” Scarborough said. “We’ve played a lot of games in the last six days.”

The Warriors will participate in three home matches starting Tuesday at the community courts in Waverly with Blessed Sacrament. Tidewater Academy takes on Fuqua School Wednesday and Southampton Academy Thursday.
