SA golf team improves to 3-1

RICHMOND—The Southampton Academy golf team improved to 3-1 on the season following a 189-231 victory over Banner Christian at Providence Golf Club in Richmond.

Raider Coach David Gibbs said he was very impressed with the way the team played Tuesday.

“We played a new golf course that we never played before,” Gibbs said. “Driving range work is starting to pay off for us. We are starting to see the benefits of practice.”

Marlin McClelland led the team by shooting a 45 in nine holes. Storm Gray shot a 47 and Michael Butch, a 48. Taylor Edwards shot a 49 and Madison Trumble rounded out the top six scores with a 55.

Southampton played its first home match at Cypress Cove Country Club Thursday. The team took on Kenston Forest School. Results were not available at press time.
