Raiders pull off come-from-behind win

The Southampton Academy Raiders came from behind to beat conference foe Brunswick Academy 10-9 Monday.

Brunswick opened the scoring with 1 run in the first inning. The Raiders came back in the third to take a 2-1 lead. By the end of fourth inning, Brunswick took a 7-2 lead due to errors, a walk and two base hits.

The Raiders scored five innings by way a three-RBI triple by Zach Ramsey and a two-RBI double by Wesley Barnes in the sixth. Brunswick took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth when two players got on base by errors and Tyler Parrish got a base hit.

The Raiders responded in the top of the seventh and scored three runs to take a 10-9 lead from a double by Garrett Smith, a RBI single by Will Edwards, and a two-RBI base hit by Jacob Holland.

The first two batters up in the bottom of the seventh got base hits for Brunswick. Carson Camp then threw out the first batter attempting to steal third base. Jacob Holland struck out the next batter for the second out. Dylan Allen came up to bat and drove a shot into right field. Reed Felts fielded the ball, threw to cut-off man, Matt Nixon, who hurled the ball to home plate to keep the tying run from scoring.

Pitching was split between Matt Nixon and Jacob Holland. Holland earned his first varsity victory.
