GASBURG—The Southampton Academy golf team defeated Brunswick Academy 178-192 to begin the season 2-0 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.

Coach David Gibbs said nine of the 12 Raiders are seniors and everything is beginning to gel for the experienced team.

“We’re actually playing very well,” Gibbs said.

Raiders David Bogese and Marlin McClelland shot a five-over 41 in a nine-hole match to lead the team at Lake Gaston Country Club.

“It’s a very demanding course,” Gibbs said.

Storm Gray shot a 47 for the team’s third lowest score. Michael Bunch shot a 12-over 48 and Madison Trumble shot a 53. Taylor Edwards’ 55 rounded out the team’s six lowest scores.

The Raiders’ next tournament is Thursday in Richmond against conference foe Steward School and Collegiate School.
