POWHATAN—Southampton Academy defeated Blessed Huguenot Sacrament 1-0 in its first Virginia Commonwealth Conference match.

The goal came midway through the second half. Junior Austin Foster passed a through ball to freshman Evan Smolak, who beat a defender and finished the shot just past the keeper’s reach.

Raiders’ keeper Thomas Taylor and the defense booked their first shutout.

Southampton Academy will host Appomattox Regional Governor’s School at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
