Nixon strikes out nine batters for SA win

SURRY–Southampton Academy pitcher Matt Nixon struck out nine batters and allowed 2 hits in five innings during the Raiders’ 10-1 win Friday against Surry.

Pitcher Wesley Barnes closed out the game with 2 strikeouts in the final two innings.

Offensively, the Raiders scored 2 runs in the first inning on a double by Barnes. Another run was added in the third inning with a leadoff hit by Barnes.

Will Edwards and Carson Camp added hits in the fourth and fifth innings that produced 2 more runs. The Raiders continued to score through the seventh inning.

Defensively, the Raiders played without an error. Surry’s only run came in the sith inning from a walk, a hi, and a sacrifice fly.
