Lowe hits 3-run homer for Southampton High win

WINDSOR—Southampton High School baseball team’s 7-run, third inning led the Indians to a 12-5 win over Windsor during Tuesday’s season opener.

Indian Cecil Lowe nailed a 3-run homer in the top of the third, and Zach Vann made a sports-center caliber catch in the bottom of the third to keep the Dukes scoreless.

Billy Nixon gained the win on the mound while pitching three innings of 1-hit baseball. Nixon had 5 strikeouts.

Southampton scored 1 run in the first, fourth and sixth innings and 2 in the seventh. The Indians had 14 hits and 2 errors.

Windsor scored its first run in the sixth and 4 in the seventh.

For the Indians, Lowe went 1-for-2, and Mason Wright and

Tonee Hill went 2-for-3.

Southampton travels to Bluestone on Tuesday, March 22, for a Southside District showdown. The team then travels to

Sussex on Wednesday, March 23, and Prince Edward on Friday, March 25, for another district match-up.
