BOYKINS—Six local civic organizations were represented during a recent tree planting at Buck Lassiter Memorial Park in Boykins.
Boykins Lions Club, Masonic Lodge 287, American Legion Post 176, GFWC Tarrara Woman’s Club, Boykins Main Street Initiative and the Town of Boykins will share the cost of the tree provided by Justin’s Lawn and Landscaping.
The Nelly R. Stevens holly will be trimmed in the shape of a traditional Christmas tree for the holiday, but before that, it will serve as the town’s “Tribute Tree” to show pride and appreciation to the men and women who have served and are serving in the military.
Photos for the tree are requested so they can be scanned, copied, laminated and returned to owners. Information needed with the photos includes the person’s name, branch of the military and number of years served.
The tree will be decorated in May for the Memorial Day Service. Pictures will be kept on the tree through the Fourth of July.
