Tidewater girls defeat SA in VCC opener

COURTLAND—Tidewater Academy pitcher Taylor Warner gave up 1 hit, struck out 7 batters and walked 2 during the Lady Warriors’ 10-2 Virginia Conference Commonwealth opening win against Southampton Academy on Wednesday.

Warner was the winning pitcher. Chelsea Speicht was the loser.

For the Lady Warriors, Samantha Spain went 3-for-3 scoring 2 runs with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Cary Beahm also went 3-for-3, scoring a run with 1 RBI. Warner was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Tidewater scored 2 runs in the first inning, 1 in the second, 3 in the fourth, three in the fifth and 1 run in the sixth on 11 hits while committing 5 errors.

The Lady Raiders scored 2 unearned runs in the fifth inning on 1 hit from Rachel Holland and committed 1 error.

Tidewater is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the VCC. Southampton Academy record is 0-1.
