COURTLAND—A Sedley man nabbed by police while allegedly burglarizing a Franklin restaurant is scheduled for a jury trial on Wednesday and Thursday, March 1 and 2, in Southampton County Circuit Court.

Ronnie Allen Stanley, 24, of the 30000 block of Unity Road is charged with two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of assaulting police officers.

Franklin Police Lt. Tim Whitt said an officer making regular security checks downtown around 12:45 a.m. Jan. 31, 2010, saw broken glass at The Grey Fox restaurant. Cpl. Al Herdeg allegedly caught Stanley in the act.

During the investigation, a kicked-in door at Franklin Automotive was discovered and Stanley was also blamed, police said. Nothing was taken from either place.

The suspect cut his foot from the glass and was taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital. Once there, Stanley reportedly became extremely aggressive. He kicked officers in the chest, bruising them, Whitt said.

The suspect allegedly had to be restrained.

Whitt stated that according to the report, Stanley threatened to kill the nurses and officers present.

Stanley’s attorney, Jack Randall, had no comment.
