WAKEFIELD—With four games left in the season, Tidewater Academy’s boys’ basketball team has sole possession of first place in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.
The Warriors, who are 11-1 in the VCC, last week defeated Steward School 63-52 and
Amelia 53-52 to take the league lead. The three schools had been tied for first.
The Warriors will host Amelia at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8. Tidewater has no more games scheduled against Steward.
During last week’s game against Amelia, an Amelia player missed a last second shot, which could’ve made the difference in the game.
“It was a close game the whole way,” said Warrior Coach Walter Westbrook. “No team had more than a 6-point lead at any time.”
In other action, Tidewater defeated Brunswick 74-40 on Friday night. Warrior seniors Mike Greene scored 26 points, Martin Hellyer 16 and Ferley Yerby 11. Junior Lamont Moore had 11 rebounds and 6 assists.
Tidewater led 17-6 after the first quarter, 32-15 at the half and 56-23 at the end of the third quarter.
