Chowan men’s basketball falls to 1-13 overall

MURFREESBORO, N.C.—The Chowan University men’s basketball team fell to 1-13 overall and 0-6 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association following a 72-63 setback to the visiting Blue Bears of Livingstone College in CIAA Cross-Over action Thursday night.

Aided by a 10-2 run midway through the first half and poor shooting from the Hawks, Livingstone held a 29-25 advantage at the half. The Blue Bears broke the game open with a 14-2 run in the second half to take a 54-36 lead with eight minutes remaining.

The Hawks responded with a 17-7 run, closing the scoring gap to 8 with more than 3 minutes left.

Livingstone shot 59 percent from the field in the second half and capitalized at the free-throw line late in the game to seal the victory.

The Hawks were led by seniors Travis Williams and Charles Rhodes, who both poured in 12 points. Rhodes also pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds.

Darius Cox of the Blue Bears led all scorers, tallying 20 points while shooting 8-for-12 from the field. Cox added 6 rebounds and 4 blocks for Livingstone.

With the win, the Blue Bears improve to 7-4 overall, 3-2 in the CIAA.

For the game, Chowan shot 34 percent from the field and made only 1-of-20 attempted 3-point shots.

The Hawks travel to Bowie, Md., Saturday to take on the Bulldogs of Bowie State University. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
