WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy improved its overall record to 11-3 and Virginia Conference Commonwealth standing to 5-1 after a 66-43 home conference win over Kenston Forest on Wednesday.
Seniors Mike Greene and Martin Hellyer and junior Lamonte Moore each scored 14 points. Senior Josh Clarke added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Greene led with 8 rebounds and senior Ferley Yerby netted 8 points and 8 assists.
In action from the weekend in Charlottesville, Greene made a career-high 33 points during the Warriors’ last-second, 50-48 loss to Covenant on Saturday.
“It was a very heartbreaking loss,” said Warrior Coach Walter Westbrook, noting the Warriors led for all but one minute of the non-conference game.
Covenant and Tidewater Academy tied up the game 48-48 with 55 seconds left. The Warriors turned over the ball at the 30-second mark.
“We fouled their kid shooting with 1.3 seconds to go, and he made two free-throws for the win,” Westbrook said.
Moore had 11 rebounds.
In a Friday night non-conference game against Tandem Friends, Greene scored 22 points to lead the Warriors to a 54-40 win.
“We got off to a sluggish start and struggled until the second half when he finally got a big enough cushion to put the game away,” Westbrook said.
Moore led with 10 rebounds.
