Sivertson scores 23 for IWA

HAMPTON — Isle of Wight Academy got a career performance from sophomore center Nathan Sivertson in defeating Hampton Christian 64-55 Monday night.

Sivertson scored 23 and teammate Brandon Privette added 26 as the Chargers improved their record to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the Metro Conference.

Hampton Christian was led by Jordan Wright’s game-high 29 points.

IWA vaulted to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter on the strength of three of Privette’s five, 3-pointers. The Warriors cut the IWA lead to 2, 25-23, late in the first half.

Then Sivertson scored, blocked a Hampton Christian shot on the ensuing possession and scored at the other end to make it 29-23 in favor of the Chargers at halftime.

Isle of Wight was 7-for-14 from the line in the fourth quarter to preserve its lead.

In other action, Privette tossed in 26 points for the second consecutive game as the Chargers topped Alliance Christian 71-40 on Jan. 7.

Privette scored all of his points in first and third quarters. He started off red-hot with 16 in the first, including three, 3-pointers.

Courtney Coles led the winless Falcons with 16, including two, 3-pointers.

IWA also got 15 points from Sivertson. Teammate and junior reserve Josh Thomas tied his season-high with 10 points.
