Rams, Terps among Parks and Rec winners

FRANKLIN—In the Franklin Parks and Recreation Elementary Basketball League on Jan. 5, the Rams, Terps and Spartans were winners.

For the second week of the season, the Rams defeated the Blue Devils 9-6. Dale Vick made 7 points and Tawrence Wiggins added 5 to lead the Rams (1-1). Kobe Lawson and Demetrius McNear had 4 and 2 points for the Blue Devils (0-2).

The Terps defeated the Tar Heels 14-11. Scoring for the Terps (2-0) were Shaman Wilkerson with 4 points, De’Mar Handshaw with 3 points, Carlos Whitehead, Dajon Frazier and Dezion Stiff with 2 points each, and Jamari Hunt with 1 point. Ricky Evans had 6 points for the Tar Heels (1-1), followed by Edward Bynum with 3 points; Shantrell McNear added 2 points.

The Spartans defeated the Wolverines 8-4. The Spartans’ (1-1) scorers were Markeen Tyler with 4 points. Maracle Monger and Myron Barrett had 2 points each. Scoring for the Tar Heels (1-1) were Maila Barrett with 3 points, and Drelyn Ford with 1 points.

JUNIOR HIGH LEAGUE

During the second week for the Junior High League on Jan. 6, the Wolfpack and Blue Devils posted wins.

The Wolfpack edged the Hurricanes 21-20. Scoring for the Wolfpack (1-1) were Jaquan Myrick with 10 points, Jaylen Lawson with 5 points, Kobe Lawson and Keith Suiter with 2 points each, and Lynn Lawson and Quiyshawn Jefferson with 1 point each.

Scoring for the Hurricanes (0-2) were Masoc Barrett with 13 points, Jawan Walton with 4 points, Carlos Whitehead with 2 points, and Larry Blow with 1 point.

The Blue Devils edged the Tigers 16-14. Scoring for the Blue Devils (2-0) were Dedrick Boone and Darius Bell with 6 points each, and Toquan Newsome with 4 points. Tiger (1-1) scorers were Rayquan Walton with 7 points, Carlton Kearney with 6 points and Ed Bynum with 1 point.

HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE

The Thunder and the Pacers were winners in week two of the High School Basketball League on Jan. 3.

The Thunder (2-0) held off the Bulls 35-34 (1-1) after leading 22-14 at halftime. Quantrell Long led the Thunder with 14 points, followed by Quad Bryant with 7 points and Quante Long with 6 points.

Tre Holland and Jarshad Clark led the Bulls with 12 and 10 points each.

The Pacers (1-1) beat the Celtics 37-27 (0-2). Martinez Hill led the Pacers with 14 points, followed by Shay-Ron Everett with 9 points.

Raymond Hunt led the Celtics with 9 points.

MEN’S ADULT LEAGUE

In week two of the Men’s Open Basketball League, LDB Crew (1-1) won the Wednesday game, beating the Rockets (1-1) 47-42.

Tyrique Griffin and Kenny Kindred led the Crew with 16 and 12 points respectively. Melvin Smith and Sebastin Yates scored 14 and 12 points for the Rockets.

On Thursday night, The NC Fire (2-0) beat Walton (0-2) 87-47. NC Fire had five players scored in double figures including Mike Ricks with 13 points; Termaine Totten, Adrian Roach and Donnie Rogers, all with 12 points; and Roante Freeman added 10 points.

Mario Hunter led Walton with 18 points and Thaddeus Edwards added 13 points.

Also on Thursday, Blackout (1-1) downed the Wildcats 74-50 behind Tony Stokes’ 16 points. Also scoring in double figures for Blackout were Jesse Walter and Jessie Pope with 14 points each. Charles Turner and Jamal Jordan led the Wildcats (0-2) with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
