Windsor’s Walton scores 26 in loss to Charles City

WINDSOR—Windsor High School’s Tony Walton scored 26 points and made 17 rebounds during the Duke’s Tuesday night 70-53 loss to Charles City.

The Dukes record fell to 3-5 and 0-2 in the Tri-Rivers District.

Charles City got out to a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter before Windsor scored a point. The first quarter score was 27- 4 and then the rest of the game was relatively competitive.

“Charles City did a good job of getting everyone involved, and Windsor struggled some until Tony Walton got going,” said Duke Coach Chris Smith. “Once the Windsor got going, the game play picked up and the two teams were evenly matched.”

Windsor trailed 46-16 at the half. The Dukes scored 16 to Charles City’s 17 in the third quarter and outscored Charles City 21-7 in the final period.

Windsor forward Gavin Horton made 6 points and 7 rebounds. Teammate R.J. Edwards had 5 assists.

Windsor will host Sussex at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, and travel to Franklin for a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, game.
