COURTLAND—Despite Southampton Academy sophomore Rashodd Maxey’s 22 points, the Raiders fell 68-60 to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot on Friday.

“The Raiders played a great game, but came up 8 points short,” said Coach David Gibbs. “I am extremely proud of the way the team played together with intensity for the full 32 minutes.”

SA used a balanced scoring attack by having eight players score at least 2 points. Behind Maxey was Storm Gray with 10 points.

“After the loss to Tidewater Academy Tuesday night, we knew that we needed to improve as a team, and I think we made huge strides in the right direction with BSH even if the outcome was not in our favor,” Gibbs said.

“BSH had several good shooting guards, which required me to use a defensive rotation to prevent them from controlling the tempo,” he continued.

Defensively, the Raiders were led by Blake Drewry, Matt Nixon, Michael Milteer, Austin Foster and Zach Best.

BSH did not lose anyone from last year’s team, which was one of the top four seeds in the conference.

“We knew that going into tonight’s contest that we were going to have to play well to compete with them. They are a well-coached team with experience.”

The Raiders will host First Baptist on Dec. 21.
