COURTLAND—Both times Lindsey Worrell got a deer, her boyfriend was hunting nearby.
The first time, the 21-year-old from Courtland killed a doe. On Nov. 27, she bagged a 9-point with a 17-inch spread and 15-inch high tines.

Lindsey Worrell of Courtland harvested this 9-point on Nov. 27 in Southampton County.

“I was thrilled and so excited,” Worrell said about the big buck she harvested on a farm in Southampton County. “I couldn’t stop smiling and taking pictures.”
Worrell, who had been sitting on the ground beneath a tree stand as darkness approached, was about to hang it up for the day when she heard something coming.
“I sat down for about 15 minutes and he slowly walked my way,” she said. “He got close enough and I shot.”
Worrell, who was very anxious and nervous when she spotted the deer, killed it with a 20-guage shotgun from about 50 steps away.
She said her boyfriend, who was in a nearby field, was also excited for her
Worrell, who is the granddaughter of Dale and Helen Marlin, plans to have the deer mounted.
