COURTLAND—Tidewater Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Southampton Academy 44-29 on Monday night.

SA was led by senior Katherine Glover, who netted 11 points. Junior Rachel Holland added 9.

The Raiders led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. Tidewater took over from there, posting a 25-19 score at the half and 28-23 at the end of the third quarter.

“We got into a little foul trouble and had to sit some (out),” SA Coach Chris Pope said. “Then we had to play catch-up. We’re a young team. We don’t have a lot of experience, other than two players. One is Katherine, and she’s been fighting a sprained ankle she received in a scrimmage.”

Southampton Academy is 1-1 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference and overall. Tidewater Academy improved to 1-1 in the conference and 2-1 overall.

The Raiders will host Blessed Sacrament at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10. Tidewater plays Christchurch at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, on the road.
