ISLE OF WIGHT—The Isle of Wight Academy boys’ basketball team is hoping for a repeat of last season, when the Chargers finished 25-8.

Key returning players from last year’s state runner-ups are seniors Brandon Privette and Kendall Boyd.

Privette averaged 15.7 points and 2.2 assists per game last season. He has been on the All-Metro Conference team the last two years and was on the All-State team last year.

Also playing for Coach Ben Vaughan are seniors John Hibbard; juniors Ian Andrews, Collin Bowden, Evan Chappell, Ben Epps, Aaron Flanagan, Jackson Key, Raynor Marfio, Michael McGuire and Josh Thomas; and sophomores Nathan Silverton and Austin Rogers.

The toughest teams on the Chargers’ schedule are Atlantic Shores and Williamsburg Christian schools — both title contenders.

The Chargers will be playing in the Life and Breath Tournament with several East Coast teams on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11, at Wakefield School in The Plains.

The Chargers also will be playing in the annual Peninsula Catholic Christmas Catholic on Monday, Dec. 27, and Tuesday, Dec. 28. This tournament includes eight teams.

The Chargers opened their regular season Monday in Lawrenceville with a non-conference game against Brunswick Academy. The Chargers won 61-51 behind Privette’s 24 points.

The Chargers open their conference season on Tuesday, Dec. 7, when they host Stonebridge School. The junior varsity game begins at 5:30 p.m. The varsity contest follows.
