Nixon recovers fumble, catches interception during SHS 24-8 loss

EMPORIA—Southamtpon High School closed out the regular football season with a 24-8 loss to Greensville on Friday night.

It could’ve been worse.

In the fourth quarter, Southampton senior Billy Nixon recovered a Greensville fumble on the 1-yard line. In the same quarter, with the Eagles inside the 10-yard line, Nixon caught an interception to stop Greensville.

Junior running back Saiquan Mason scored the Indians’ only touchdown with 5:05 left in the first quarter.

The Eagles led 16-8 at the half.

Southampton ended its season 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the Southside District.
