POWHATAN—Southampton High School sophomore Billy Britton will make a return trip to this year’s regional golf tournament.
Britton, who also qualified as a freshman, was the only Indian to score low enough in Tuesday’s Southside District Tournament at Mill Quarter to make it to the regional tourney on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 4 and 5, at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg. Britton scored an 85 for a ninth-place overall finish.
“We’re hoping he makes it to the next step — to the state tournament,” said Coach Bob Woulf.
SHS placed fourth out of seven teams in the tournament with a score of 347 behind Parkview with 346. Bluestone won the tournament with a 318 and Powhatan followed with a 323.
Others finishing in the top 20 for the Indians were sophomores Jordan Francis and Steven Rhinard, both with 87, and sophomore Lewis Mayes, 88.
The Indians finished in fourth place in the district with a 4-4 record.
