JACKSON, N.C.—Two Northampton County men are facing drug charges after being arrested in separate incidents.

On Tuesday police made an unexpected discovery in Margarettsville after they responded to an alarm.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, officers found marijuana plants growing in containers in the back of the residence.

Melvin Newsome Daniel, 59, was charged with possession of marijuana and manufacturing marijuana.

Newsome was placed in the Northampton County Jail on a $15,000 bond. Daniel has since posted bail and was released.

On Monday, deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle on NC 48 near Gaston. Vincent said the traffic stop was conducted after drug agents received information about the vehicle.

Marwan Lewis Stokes, 26, of Emporia, was arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stokes was transported to the Northampton County Jail on a $15,000 secured bond. Vincent said Stokes has posted bond and has been released.
