Virginia State Police is investigating a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passing train on the tracks crossing U.S. Route 258 near the intersection of Windsor Boulevard and U.S. 258 in Windsor on Monday afternoon, Nov. 28.
VSP Sgt. Michelle Anaya confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries, as the driver of the tractor-trailer exited the vehicle prior to it being hit.
A VSP news release stated that preliminary investigations revealed that a tractor-trailer became disabled on the train tracks before being struck by the passing train.
The impact caused the tractor-trailer to become fully engulfed and pushed into the gore of the ditch adjacent to the railroad tracks, police said.
Troopers were on scene investigating as of 3:15 p.m Monday.
In a Tuesday morning, Nov. 29, update, Anaya stated that U.S. 258 was open to all traffic as of about 6 a.m.
She noted that the tractor-trailer driver, 56-year-old Keith Edward Deiters, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was charged with failure to obey railroad crossing signals.
Anaya indicated there was no more information available to share as of late Tuesday morning.
