Agencies responded Monday afternoon, Aug. 29, to a commercial structure fire located within the old B & B Quality Cleaners building in the 300 block of North Franklin Street in Franklin. Franklin Chief of Emergency Services Vernie Francis stated that crews arrived on scene to find smoke showing, with an active fire in the front corner of the structure; the fire was quickly extinguished, and crews overhauled the area finding minimal extension. He said it was Franklin Fire & Rescue along with Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department that responded to the fire around 2:55 p.m. “The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and thankfully no one was injured,” he said. He also noted that additional agencies assisting included Franklin Municipal Power & Light, Franklin Police Department and the Virginia State Police.
