Western Tidewater under flash flood watch
WAKEFIELD
The Western Tidewater region will remain under a flash flood watch through midnight tonight.
An additional flood advisory has been issued for central Isle of Wight County, northeastern Southampton County and parts of north Suffolk, which will remain in effect through 6:30 p.m.
As of 3:20 p.m. the National Weather Service reported that between 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inches of rain had fallen, with an additional one to two inches expected over the area during the next couple of hours. This will likely result in minor flooding.
A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban areas is occurring or is imminent. The NWS is advising motorists to turn around when encountering flooded roads, as most flooding deaths occur in vehicles.
