A tractor-trailer that overturned at approximately 1:35 p.m. today, March 6, has occurred without injuries to the driver or passenger. Maj. Camden Cobb, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, stated that deputies arrived and found the vehicle on its side at Meherrin Road between Sunlight Drive and White House Road.

“The accident occurred when the tractor-trailer went off of the road to the right and lost control of the vehicle,” Cobb stated in a press release. “No other vehicles were involved in the crash.”

He added that the Virginia Deparment of Transportation was on the scene for traffic control. Meherrin Road was closed in that area as of 3:25 p.m., but passenger vehicles are able to go around the accident using a detour that takes Sunlight Drive and White House Road. Other tractor-trailers cannot get through at this time.

Courtland Volunteer Fire Department is on the scene and the Courtland Police Department is also assisting with the accident.
