Isle of Wight County Schools recently honored Rosa White for over 45 consecutive years as a bus driver for the division. At a surprise breakfast on Dec. 9, White was presented with a plaque by Superintendent Dr. Jim Thornton.

The plaque, made by students in the Smithfield High MakerSpace, thanked White for her years of service to IWCS.

Forty-five years is amazing and you do an amazing job,” said Thornton. “We don’t have many employees get to 45 and wanted to do something special for you.”

She also received a service pin for her accomplishment.

Despite having been on the job for 45-plus consecutive years, White said that while she has thought about retirement, she isn’t ready to retire just yet. She commented that she loves children and interacting with the community, which is why she enjoys driving a school bus. She then thanked everyone who was there to honor her and shared that she was truly surprised by the event.
