FRANKLIN

An arrest has been made in the shooting death of Jack Sykes III, 23, which occurred on Aug. 4, at 1698 Dorchester St., Franklin. This information comes from Sgt. Scott Halverson, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.

Shakeem Bryant, 29, of Courtland, has been arrested and charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers had been called at 9:36 p.m. on the night of the shooting death. They were directed to the N section of the apartments, where they found Sykes suffering from a gunshot wound.

Franklin Fire & Rescue transported the victim to Southampton Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim was later identified as Jack Sykes III from Franklin.
