Both Southampton County and Franklin city public schools will not be in session on Monday, Dec. 10.

Late on Sunday afternoon, Supt. Dr. Gwendolyn Shannon notified the newspaper that closure for county schools is “due to this beautifully yet potentially dangerous weather.”

Kelvin Edwards Sr., deputy superintendent, also announced that the city schools will be closed tomorrow.

Shannon added, “Stay warm, stay safe and have fun. We will see you soon.”

Lynn Briggs, spokeswoman for Isle of Wight County Public Schools, said later, “Due to hazardous road conditions, especially in the southern end of the county, all Isle of Wight County Schools and offices will be operating on a 2-hour delay … This applies to all students and staff.

We have also asked parents and employees to continue to monitor their devices, as well as the division’s web site and social media accounts, for any further updates.

No word as yet from Southampton Academy and Isle of Wight Academy.
