A Franklin man has been arrested on charges of third offense domestic assault, strangulation and abduction.

Derrick Lamont Griffin

On Sunday at 10:35 a.m., Franklin Police officers were sent to Southampton Memorial Hospital in response to reports of a female receiving treatment after being assaulted.

According to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the police department, the victim had visible injuries for which she was treated and then released. The officers’ investigation revealed that an argument with her boyfriend led to the 25-year-old female being repeatedly assaulted at her residence in the 500 block of South High Street.

Warrants were obtained for Derrick Lamont Griffin, 33, also of the 500 block of South High Street. Griffin was taken into custody without incident and was remanded to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
