Franklin-Southampton Chamber hosts golf tournament

A field of 17 teams teed off in the 26th annual Chamber Golf tournament recently held at Cypress Cove Country Club. Players, sponsors and volunteers started the day with a hot dog lunch provided by Walmart, prepared by grill masters Randolph Cook and Ashley Cotton.

the tournament rules.

“It takes many people working together to present this tournament,” said Teresa Beale, Chamber executive director. “The fantastic staff of Cypress Cove assures everything runs smoothly for us, from the golf course conditions through the awards dinner. Year after year, our generous sponsors and volunteers make this event a success. Over 50 sponsors participated this year.”

Posting a score of 59, the 2018 Joe Dail Tournament Champions was awarded to the team of Lance Simms, Raye Moore, Kenny McClelland and Billy Britton. A perpetual plaque engraved with each year’s low gross winners honors the memory of Joe Dail and his love for the Chamber. Joe was tournament chairman for many years, and his dedication and inspiration built Chamber Golf into a signature event.

Also posting a score of 59 was the team of Marshall Rabil, Gillette Councill, Harper Thompson and Blake Phillips. After a playoff off the card, they were awarded second place in the first flight. Third place went to Jerry Grizzard, Dayton Crowder, Chris Shaffer and Bob Woulf.

In the second flight, first place was awarded to Brian Hedgepeth, Frank Rabil, Sammy Belcher and Richard Atkinson. Second place went to David Rabil, Bucky Taylor, Mark Wright and David Britt; third place to Holt Livesay, Tony Parson, Denny Mallon and Steve Gibson.

Third flight winners were John Harrison, Wilson Dickerson, Kevin Gregg  Jerry Kee. Second place went to Jerry Rose, John Claud, Warren Beale and Bob Marks; third place to Josh Puhlman, Michael Wells, Hunter Byrum & Randy Vann.

Following the round, team, raffle and door prizes were awarded while everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared and served by Cypress Cove.

This local event helps to fund the Chamber’s continued work in the region including business growth and development & legislative advocacy. Chamber programs are focused on “Strengthening Business, Enhancing Community.”
