FRANKLIN
Melissa Rollins, the City of Franklin’s director of finance, announced during the city council meeting on Monday that she would be leaving her position with the city to assume new duties as the new assistant county administrator for Surry County.

During the meeting, she introduced her successor, Tracy Gregory, formerly of the City of Chesapeake’s public utilities division, where she served as fiscal administrator.

Rollins said this Thursday, March 30, will be her last day with the city.

“I can honestly say that Tracy brings a wealth of expertise in government finance,” Rollins said. “She is a CPA (certified public accountant) and has spent quite a bit of time with the City of Chesapeake.”

“I’m looking forward to working with the Franklin city staff; I think I have a lot to bring to the table and a lot to learn regarding the business practices of the city,” Gregory said.

Rollins has served as the city’s director of finance for the past six years. According to City Manager R. Randy Martin, she has received the government finance officers award for the past four years, and that the city has received a clean audit opinion every year since she started working for the city.

He added that she most recently began a major conversion of the city’s financial system to new computer software.
