FRANKLIN — Deacon Elvin N. Vaughan transitioned from his life on earth to his heavenly home, joining his beloved wife, Ethel Marion Mutts Vaughan, on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2017.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1922 in Franklin, Virginia, to the late Charlie and Ethel Vaughan.
After completing his elementary and secondary education, Elvin matriculated at Norfolk State College, Norfolk, Virginia, then served in the United States Army where he was a soldier in World War II.

Upon returning from the armed services, he enrolled and completed Echols College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1958, Elvin began and operated Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home on South Street in Franklin.
Elvin loved his community in which he served in numerous capacities such as a former Franklin City School Board member, and a former Franklin City Council member.
Leaving to cherish his memory is the other love of his life, his daughter, Karen Norletta Vaughan Edmond; his son-in-love, Junious Lafayette Edmond; two granddaughters, Danielle Edmond and Alexandra Edmond; his grand dog, Gucci; nephews, Monty Hackett (Jean), and Kenneth Vaughan (Doreatha), Kevin Freeman (Donna) and Michael Freeman; nieces, Scoletta Stewart, Tameshia Brace, Tondra Hamilton, Mildred Denice Vaughan, Freeda Ann Trailor and Jennifer Freeman.
Elvin is survived by many other relatives and friends.
At his side in the business were his devoted staff members, Junious Edmond, Monty Hackett, Haywood Riddick, Earl Bynum, James Riddick, Otis Gray and Audrey Hart Lee.
The homegoing service will be at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 15, in First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, with the Rev. J.J. Ferguson delivering the message of comfort; the Rev. D.S. Riddick II is the host pastor. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, Franklin.
