FRANKLIN – Mildred Butler Mason passed away peacefully on Dec. 3, 2024, following a period of declining health. The daughter of the late Harry C. Butler Sr. and Nettie Russell Butler, she was born on Feb. 16, 1928, in Suffolk, Virginia, but lived her entire long life in Franklin.
Mildred was a member of High Street United
Methodist Church and was one of its oldest members having joined in 1942. She was a member of the Franklin High School Class of 1945 where she graduated with honors as the Salutatorian. Mildred was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her husband, Charles Wallace Mason predeceased her as did her sister, Frances Butler Thomas and her brother, Harry C. Butler Jr.
She is survived by her son, W. Bruce Mason and his wife, Johnsie of Johns Island, South Carolina; granddaughter, Katie Leigh Mason of Charleston, South Carolina and grandson James Hunter Mason II (Ashley) of Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Poplar Spring Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. Memorial donations may be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218 Franklin, Virginia 23851 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
