Last month, many youngsters Windsor knew Christmas joy thanks to the cooperative effort of many individuals, organizations and businesses in town.

“This was 11th Annual WPD/TOW Toy Drive,” Police Chief Rodney Riddle wrote in reply for details. “This year we collected over $4,300 from local business partners and new toys donated by community members. These funds were used to purchase toys and clothing for local children and families in need. Items were distributed to families identified by the IOW Department of Social Services, Windsor PD and Community Harvest Outreach. Because of the generosity of the community, WPD and Community Harvest Outreach were able to provide toys and clothing to over 285 children.”

The following businesses and organizations within the community provided monetary donations:

Scott & Associates; Peggy Ayers/Bonnie Wood; Dewitt’s Automotive Center; Indika Farms Inc.; Cabintowne Inc.; Belcher’s Paving Co.; Windsor Manor Park Inc.; Farmers Bank employees; Windsor Lions Club; Purdie Lodge No. 170 AF & AM; Commonwealth Gin; Hardy’s Towing & Repair LLC; H & K Hauling LLC; Hardy’s Florist; Windsor Ruritan Club Inc.; and Citizens National Bank.

Damien Smith, director of Marketing for Farmers Bank, said the employees raised $766 and bought many toys, including bicycles, a Big Wheel and scooters.

Riddle added, “The Windsor Police Department is extremely grateful to all those who provided support to this years operation. Without the generosity of the community members, businesses and civic organizations we would not be able to accomplish our mission to assist those who are less fortunate within the community.”
