A driver of a logging truck ran a red light on Thursday morning and hit an Utz Potato Chip truck, causing traffic to come to a standstill on Route 58 eastbound.

The accident occurred around 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of Southampton Parkway and Story’s Station Road. Investigation determined that a 2000 Freightliner operated by Kenneth Edwards, 31, of Ahoskie, North Carolina, ran through the red light, crashing into a 2006 Workhorse commercial van. The unnamed driver of the van was transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries; Edwards was summoned for reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control.

The incident was cleared by 1 p.m. and the roadway was reopened.
