Mr. and Mrs. Cooper Pope Gillette Jr. of Capron are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Dare, to Dustan Thomas Jarratt, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Jarratt Jr. of Emporia and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Jackson Jr. of Prospect, Virginia.

The bride-to-be is the maternal granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hubert “Pete” Phillips of Adams Grove. She is also the paternal granddaughter of Helen Francis Gillette of Capron and the late Cooper P. Gillette Sr.

Dustan is the paternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Jarratt Sr. of Emporia, and the maternal grandson of the late Mr. Calvin Butts of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He is also the grandson of Mr. John St. Sing of Emporia and the late Mrs. Doris St. Sing.

The bride-to-be graduated from Southampton High School in 2004. She received a bachelor of science degree with a concentration in biology and a minor in chemistry from Chowan University in 2007. She continued her education and received a master of science degree in secondary education in 2012 from Old Dominion University. She is employed as a biology teacher at Greensville County High School in Emporia.

The groom-to-be graduated from Greensville County High School in 2002. He continued his education at the Crater Criminal Justice Training Academy in 2006. He is employed as a detective with the Emporia Police Department.

A June 13 wedding is planned.
