Isle of Wight Academy Coach Benjamin Vaughan will have to wait at least one more game for his 600th career win following the Chargers’ 59-57 loss Thursday at StoneBridge Christian.

The longtime IWA coach sits at 599 career wins and will become only the third high school hoops coach in Virginia with 600 victories.

IWA trailed initially, but two of Casey’s points knotted the game at 17 with 7:26 left in the second quarter. The Chargers pulled ahead briefly, 19-17, on Casey’s next basket, but never led again as the Cavaliers again built their lead. StoneBridge held off IWA late, making key foul shots when they were needed most despite shooting only 4-for-10 from the line in the fourth quarter with the game hanging in the balance.

The Chargers were paced by Bryce Casey’s season-high 32 points and Rylee Williams’ 10 points. StoneBridge was led by Shaun Faulk’s 17 points. Terrick Philpot had 16 points; Wim Quier had 11 points for the Cavaliers.

IWA is now 3-12, 1-5 in the Metro Athletic Conference; StoneBridge ran its record to 2-9, 1-4, as of this writing. The Chargers return to action Saturday night, when they square off against Alliance Christian (4-9, 2-4) at 7 p.m. at Jester Gymnasium.
