Most county mayors reelected

COURTLAND—Mayors of five towns in Southampton County were returned to office on Election Day, and one was newly appointed, according to the unofficial results reported by the Southampton County Registrar’s Office.

Spier Edwards was reelected mayor of Boykins with 153 votes, which is three times what David Stiglitz got with 51 votes.

Harold Preston Futrell Jr. of Branchville was reelected with 13 votes.

William Nick Kitchen IV of Capron was reelected with 9 votes.

Danny R. Williams of Courtland was reelected with 54 votes.

Sandra L. “Sandy” Vick of Ivor was reelected with 19 votes.

Kenneth Wayne Cook won the mayorship in Newsoms with 59 votes over Vanless D. “V.D.” Worrell’s 43.

In all instances, town council members were returned to their seats. The only challenger was in Boykins, where James H. “Hank” Fuller had only 112 votes and was not elected.
