COURTLAND–Jayquan Ryland of Southampton High School is Western Tidewater’s Player of the Week for week 7 of the high school football season.
In the 17-14 home victory against Greensville High School, Ryland led the Indians in rushing with 205 yards on 21 attempts. The senior running back also scored the first touchdown in the effort.
Ryland averaged 9.76 yards per carry, which was pivotal in keeping the ball moving in a game that was mostly a defensive struggle.
Southampton’s Russell Ballance was the runner-up for player of the week. Ballance, who won in the online poll, was 3-3 passing for 55 yards and was 2-2 in extra point attempts. Ballance also kicked the game winning field goal.
